I am an independent consultant and non executive director specialising in strategic, regulatory and commercial advice for companies operating in, or needing to understand, competitive energy markets.

I graduated from Bath University as an electrical power engineer, and started my career with the Central Electricity Generating Board. After working for Friends of the Earth in its early days, and a spell in wave energy research and development, I was actively involved in the successful early introduction of small-scale co-generation to the UK, as commercial engineer and then managing director of the Fiat TOTEM business.

In the late 80s, as a response to the break-up and liberalisation of the state UK electricity industry, I created the energy markets consultancy ILEX (as well as co founding Windcluster, a small-scale wind development company). Besides co-managing ILEX, I continued to consult during the fifteen years while it grew to become a leading European player in its field. The business was acquired by Pöyry in 2003. I stayed on as Chairman until 2006 and then left to form Lower Watts Consulting.
